The floor in Folkets Hus reception is made of waste from Ellingard Gruppen in Oslo. 100 % reuse of stone like rests of worktops, window sills, steps, etc. Terrazzo consists of crushed material that is mixed into cement, which is casted and sanded. This solution is unique in each project. The size, the type of stones and colors where decided by the interior architect in collaboration with Elligard. Instead of this waste being thrown into a container and dumped in nature, it has been processed into a great stone floor. One avoids buying new stone and long distance transport. At the same time, there is no need to transport the waste to dumping sites. This saves energy (emissions). The duration of this unique stone product is around 400 years depending on use and when it needs to be replaced it can be crushed and mixed into a new terrazzo.
